Libertad, Belize - A proud day for people of Garifuna descent. Viewed a reenactment of their 1832 arrival in Belize to escape persecution. The boats were ritualistically repelled twice before being allowed to land the third time.

Then a procession to the church for a celebration mass, Belizean and Garifuna flags waving. I purchased a Coke along the way, as it was a hot morning.

Later, we went to the civic center for a program of songs and dances. It was a great joy to participate in this festival of liberty.
